How to Extract Your Portfolio from Major Brokerages

Step-by-step guide to importing your investment portfolio from Fidelity, Schwab, Vanguard, and other popular brokerages using Prismfolio.

If you've ever wanted to analyze your investment portfolio across multiple brokerage accounts, you know the pain of logging into each site, exporting data, and trying to make sense of scattered spreadsheets. Prismfolio simplifies this process with one-click portfolio extraction.

In this guide, we'll walk you through extracting your portfolio from major US brokerages.

What You'll Need

  • Prismfolio Chrome Extension - Install from the Chrome Web Store
  • Brokerage account - Access to your online brokerage account
  • Portfolio data - Any account type (taxable, IRA, 401k, etc.)

Supported Brokerages

Prismfolio currently supports portfolio extraction from the Chrome extension on:

  • Fidelity - Full portfolio page and individual positions
  • Schwab - Holdings summary and detailed positions
  • Vanguard - Account holdings and investment details

Other brokerages can sync via Plaid (1 connection on Free; unlimited on Plus).

Step-by-Step: Extracting Your Portfolio

Step 1: Install the Extension

  1. Visit the Chrome Web Store
  2. Search for "Prismfolio"
  3. Click "Add to Chrome"
  4. Pin the extension to your browser toolbar for easy access

Step 2: Log Into Your Brokerage

Navigate to your brokerage's website and log in as usual:

  • Go to fidelity.com, schwab.com, vanguard.com, etc.
  • Sign in with your credentials
  • Navigate to your portfolio or holdings page

For Fidelity: Go to "Positions" or "Portfolio" For Schwab: Click on "Positions" tab For Vanguard: Select "My Accounts" → "Holdings"

Step 3: Click the Prismfolio Extension

Once you're on your portfolio page:

  1. Click the Prismfolio icon in your browser toolbar
  2. The extension sidebar will open
  3. Click "Extract Portfolio"
  4. Prismfolio will automatically read your holdings from the page

Step 4: Review Your Holdings

Prismfolio will display:

  • All positions - Stocks, ETFs, mutual funds, and other securities
  • Current values - Market prices and total portfolio value
  • Sector allocation - Which sectors you're invested in
  • Security types - Breakdown by stocks, funds, etc.

Step 5: Save Your Analysis

Create a free account to save your portfolio snapshot and track changes over time. This allows you to:

  • Monitor your portfolio's evolution
  • Compare allocations across time
  • Access historical snapshots

Tips for Best Results

1. Use the Full Portfolio Page

Make sure you're on the complete portfolio/holdings page, not a summary dashboard. The extraction works best when all your positions are visible.

2. Wait for Full Page Load

Let the page load completely before clicking extract. All position data should be visible before running the analysis.

3. Check Multiple Accounts

If you have accounts at multiple brokerages:

  • Extract from each brokerage separately
  • Prismfolio will merge all holdings into one view
  • See your complete asset allocation across all accounts

4. Update Regularly

For the most accurate analysis:

  • Extract your portfolio monthly or quarterly
  • Track how your allocations change over time
  • Identify drift from your target allocation

What Happens If Extraction Fails?

Sometimes extraction doesn't work on the first try. Here's what to do:

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Refresh the page - Reload your portfolio page and try again
  2. Check the page - Make sure you're on the holdings/positions page
  3. Try manual entry - Use our manual entry form to input holdings
  4. Contact support - Let us know which brokerage you're using

Manual Entry Fallback

If automatic extraction doesn't work for your brokerage:

  1. Click "Manual Entry" in the extension
  2. Enter your holdings (symbol, shares, value)
  3. Prismfolio will analyze your manually entered portfolio

Privacy and Security

We take your financial data seriously:

  • Local processing - Holdings are extracted in your browser
  • Encrypted storage - Data is encrypted before saving
  • No brokerage login - We never ask for your brokerage credentials
  • Your data stays yours - We never sell your portfolio information; we share it only with processors under contract when you use signed-in sync or payments

What's Next?

Once you've extracted your portfolio, you can:

  • View sector allocation breakdown
  • Check concentration risk
  • See top holdings
  • Track historical changes
  • Compare your allocation to benchmarks

Ready to get started? Install Prismfolio and extract your first portfolio in under 60 seconds.
